    Money on your own terms

    Tick each skill once you can do it without the guide.

    • Open one account in my own name and autopay it in full
    • Read all three credit reports and save dated copies
    • Build a budget from last month's real statements and review each payday
    • Keep one to six months of essentials in my own savings account
    • Open a retirement account, name a beneficiary and automate contributions
    • Confirm I contribute enough to get the full employer match
    • Write a one-page household money map and review it yearly
    • Hold a planned money talk and agree on one next step
    • Choose a joint and separate account setup and keep one account in my name
    • Plan a career break's cushion, insurance and savings in writing
    • Read a lease for fees, deposit, break clause, repairs and renewal
    • Search three months of statements for fees and remove them
    • Know the signs of financial control and the hotline number
    • Check my social security earnings record and benefit options
    • Set one holiday total you can pay by January and track it
