Steps

  1. Blot the fresh stain with a clean cloth from the outside in.
  2. Read the care label and test any treatment on an inside seam.
  3. For foundation, lipstick or sunscreen, work in a drop of dish soap or oil-free makeup remover with a fingertip, rinse, and repeat.
  4. For blood, rinse from the back of the fabric with cold water and a little soap.
  5. For wine, coffee or tea, flush with cold water from the back, then rub in liquid detergent.
  6. For deodorant marks, rub the fabric against itself gently when dry, or treat with detergent before washing.
  7. Wash as the label allows, then air dry and check in daylight before any heat.
